Your Day Shift with a Postpartum Doula

McKayla Broadhurst - Utah Postpartum Doula

What does a Postpartum Doula shift look like?

Picture this: It’s your first week home with a newborn, and you haven’t cooked a single meal yourself. You’re getting full nights of sleep, your house is staying clean, and you’ve hardly left your bed. This is where the warmth and expertise of a Bountiful Doula truly make a difference.

But what exactly does a day shift with a postpartum doula look like? Let’s walk through a typical morning or afternoon with us so you can see firsthand how we support new families.

A Gentle Start to the Day

Your doula’s day shift begins with a gentle knock on your door—or a quick text if a knock might wake the baby or set your pets off on a welcome parade. We start with a warm greeting, wash our hands, and check in with you about how the night went. We want to know what you need most today, whether that’s a few moments for a shower, a hot cup of coffee, or a little breathing room to ease into the day. We’re here to help you start the morning on the right note.

Nourishment: Breakfast and Beyond

We'll head to the kitchen next if you haven’t had breakfast yet. Preparing nutritious meals is one of our favorite ways to support you, and with McKayla Broadhurst on our team as a Certified Postpartum Nutrition Professional, we come prepared with a Postpartum Nutrition Guide and a stack of recipes to fuel your recovery. Our focus is on meals that aid healing, boost energy, and are tailored to your dietary needs—giving you the strength to face the day with your little one.

Infant Care and Empowerment

Once you’re settled, we turn our attention to your baby. From diaper changes to soothing cuddles, we take care of all the basics. Not only are we here to help with all the practical support, but as educated postpartum experts we’re also here to empower you with baby care tips, from soothing techniques and feeding support to understanding your baby’s individual cues. We aim to help you feel confident and capable, knowing you have a guide by your side.

Emotional Support and Connection

Postpartum isn’t just a physical change, but emotional too. As postpartum doulas we're here to be a listening ear, a reassuring presence, and a source of professional advice. Whether you need to talk through the baby blues, share a parenting win, or just connect over a coffee, we’re here for you. Sometimes, it’s simply sitting together while you feed the baby or helping you tackle that pile of baby clothes you’ve meant to put away. Our presence is a reminder that you’re never alone on this journey.

Flexible, Personalized Support

As the day moves along, your needs might change. Maybe you want to nap while we care for your baby, or you’d like some help with light household tasks. Whatever you need, we're ready to pivot and make it happen. As doulas we care for baby and provide the space and time for you to rest, bond, and settle into your new rhythm as a family.

A Heartfelt Goodbye

As our shift wraps up, we want you to feel nourished, rested, and supported. We leave you recharged and confident, ready to enjoy the rest of your day with your family. A day shift with a postpartum doula from our team is more than just hands-on assistance: it’s an experience designed to help you thrive in this amazing yet challenging time, as our clients have said after a shift "I feel like I can do anything!". Our day shifts cover everything from meal prep and baby care to emotional reassurance and parenting guidance, always with warmth and understanding.
